Adoption and DNA Research - Sample Project

This sample research project demonstrates how documentary research, historical newspapers, census records, and DNA evidence can be combined to answer a difficult family-history question.

The research began with a question about an adoptee's date of birth and expanded into an investigation of her biological family and the circumstances surrounding her adoption. After 26 hours of research, I was able to identify her official date of birth and uncover evidence pointing toward her biological parents.
